    What is Slack?

Slack is basically a messaging app for teams, designed for workplaces and can be used across multiple devices and platforms, and is equipped with robust features that allow you to not only chat one-on-one with other curators but also in groups.

On Slack you'll have also a direct contact with Musixmatch Content Team.

    How it works?

Firstly, you'd receive an invite to join our Team on Slack.
Check your personal inbox and accept the invite via the email received, then enter a username and password, and you're good to go.

    0_1544788881005_Cattura6.PNG

This Slack FAQ page offers more info about joining Slack.

    Settings

Click on your username or the drop-down arrow next to the Slack team name to access a settings menu. From here you can adjust your preferences (themes for sidebar, messages, emoji style, and more), view your profile and account, access a Help/Feedback page, get Slack apps (more on that later), and set yourself to away.

    Notifications

Click the bell symbol at the top-right of the sidebar to adjust your notification preferences. You can snooze them, setup a Do Not Disturb schedule, and more. When you sign in to Slack for the first time, almost every type of notification is enabled. But the service offers a number of different ways to manage them. Each channel even has individual notification preferences, for instance. To get to those settings, open the channel you want to adjust, then click the name of it at the top of the screen, and select Channel notification preferences.

This Slack FAQ page offers more info about notifications.

    Channels

Underneath the name of your Slack Team and your own username, you’ll see a section called Channels in the sidebar. Channels are chat rooms (public or private). If a channel is public, everyone in your team can join, but if it is private, only select people can join. And finally, if you click the Channels section name, you’ll see a new window that lets you browse and sort all channels.

    The most important channels are:
#general a channel where you can find relevant info for all freelancers team
#indian-team a specific channel related to the indian project. Here you can share your doubt, find answers and check the news regarding the project status

This Slack page offers more info about channels.

We need your effort and dedication to style all the lyrics properly to keep quality in the formatting and grammar of the lyrics so it’ll be easy for other users to synchronize them in time with music.

This guideline is dedicated to Indian languages as Hindi, Tamil, Telegu, Punjabi, Malayalam, Kannada, etc)

    How to Transcribe

1️⃣ Transcribe all lyrics, even when a section is repeated

All the sung or spoken lyrics should be transcribed, even if a line or group of lines are repeated several times in the song lyrics, type out all of them.

The lyrics will be synced in time to the music by other users, so don’t use multipliers (X4) in order to help them with the line by line synchronization.

    ❌Wrong
Wait for me to come home (X4)

    ✔️Good
Wait for me to come home
Wait for me to come home
Wait for me to come home
Wait for me to come home.

2️⃣ Transcribe the lyrical audio content only

All not spoken part (eg. "Ohh", "Ahaaha", "NaNaNa") should be kept only if essential part of the lyrics.

Avoid comments like "intro", "verse", "bridge", "chorus", "outro", "spoken", etc should be replaced with an empty row.

    ❌Wrong
    [Chorus]
When you feel my heat, look into my eyes
It's where my demons hide, it's where my demons hide

    ✔️Good
When you feel my heat, look into my eyes
It's where my demons hide, it's where my demons hide

The names of performers inside the lyrics should be avoided/removed, even when indicating a specific portion sung by the artist.

    ❌Wrong
    [Intro: Justin Bieber]
Come and move that in my direction
So thankful for that, it's such a blessin', yeah

    ✔️Good
Come and move that in my direction
So thankful for that, it's such a blessin', yeah

3️⃣ Transcribe lyrics in their native scripts

Lyrics are expected to be transcribed in their native scripts (e.g. Hindi songs are expected to be written in Devanagari alphabet).

    ✔️ Good- Hindi (Original)
    सन्नन सन्नन जाए रे जिया गरबे की रात में
    चूड़ी खनकाई तूने आधी ही बात में
    सन्नन सन्नन जाए रे जिया गरबे की रात में

    ❌ Wrong - Romanization
Sanan sanan jaaye re jiya garbe ki raat mein
Choodi khankhai tune aadhi hi baat mein
Sanan sanan jaaye re jiya garbe ki raat mein

    ✔️ Good- Tamil (Original)
    ஒரு முறை என்னப் பாத்து
    ஓரக் கண்ணில் பேசு
    ஒரு முறை என்னப் பாத்து

    ❌ Wrong - Romanization
    Oru murai ennai paathu
    oarak kannil pesu
    Oru murai ennai paathu

3️⃣bis / Selecting English as translation, translate the lyrics in English language. No transliteration in English (romanization version)

To help people who cannot read the original scripts, the romanized version of Indian languages will be available as translation inside the translations list.

At the moment, selection the English translation, you must translate the lyrics in English (NO transliteraion)

    ✔️Good
    0_1544192682559_Cattura.PNG

    ❌Wrong
    0_1544192617354_Cattura1.PNG

4️⃣ Primary vocals are focus and secondary lyrics should be in parenthesis

Secondary/Background vocals should be transcribed ONLY when they add value to the “story” of the song and enclosed in parenthesis:
NOT if merely echoing primary lyrics
NOT if just a portion of preceding or subsequent primary lyrics
NOT if just a sound effect or other non-vocal sound

    ✔️Good
What are you doin' to me? (Hey)
What are you doin', huh? (What are you doin', love?)
    "Attention" by Emma Heesters

Enclose Backup or Secondary lyrics in (parenthesis) with the only exception being the secondary voice at the beginning of the lyrics. Only in this case, don’t enclose the sentence in parenthesis:

    ❌Wrong
    (O U T K A S T)
Live from the centre of the Earth
Seven light years below sea level we go

    "Intro" by Outkast

    ✔️Good
    O U T K A S T
Live from the centre of the Earth
Seven light years below sea level we go

Featured Artist vocals should NOT be in parenthesis at any time

    How to Format Lyrics

1️⃣ Break transcriptions up into individual lines

2️⃣ Capitalize first letter of every line. Do not capitalize each word or use uppercase in all sentence

The first line of each line should be capitalized to improve readability of the lyrics and keep a standard formatting.

    ✔️Good
    Despacito
    Quiero respirar tu cuello despacito
Deja que te diga cosas al oído
Para que te acuerdes si no estás conmigo
    Despacito

3️⃣ Separate sections with double breaks

    ❌Wrong
I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end, it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end it doesn't even matter
One thing, I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme to remind myself how

"In the end" by Linkin Park

    ✔️Good
I tried so hard and got so far
But in the end, it doesn't even matter
I had to fall to lose it all
But in the end it doesn't even matter

One thing, I don't know why
It doesn't even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind, I designed this rhyme to remind myself how

    4️⃣No line-end punctuation

Only question marks and exclamation marks should be used at the end of a line – no commas or periods. Commas can be used within the lyric line, if necessary, but not at the end of a line.

    ❌Wrong
Come and move that in my direction,
So thankful for that, it's such a blessin', yeah.

    ✔️Good
Come and move that in my direction
So thankful for that, it's such a blessin', yeah

5️⃣Always write contractions using apostrophe (‘)

When using contractions to shorten a word, by removing one letter or more, substitute an apostrophe in the same spot.

    For example:

ballin', not ballin (contraction of “balling”)
‘til, not til (contraction of “until”)
'em, not em (contraction of “them”)
    ‘cause not cause
    don’t, not dont

6️⃣Do not capitalize each word or use uppercase in all sentence

    7️⃣Use standardized spellings
Below is a list of common American slang word and phrases and how to spell them:

Specific cases accepted for rap songs:

    Tryna (Trying to)
    ‘Til (until)
    ‘Cause (because)
    Finna (I’m fixing to)
    I'ma (I am going to)
    Turnt (Turn up)
    gon' (going to)
    outta ('out of')
    e'ry (every)
nah mean (know what I mean?)
    lil' (unless a proper name)
Cuz (when referring to a cousin, or brother, friend, comrade, etc and NOT abbreviated "because")
Ya (should be used when in place of “You”)
Yah (should be used when in place of “Yeah/Yes”)

    Below some French-specific Conventions:

    • Contractions:

Outside of rap, contractions should be kept to a minimum and only when prevalent in audio.
    Examples : j’suis, l’keuf,qu’tu viennes

    • Punctuation:

French punctuation rules should be respected:
One space after single punctuation signs:
    Example: Je viens, je pars

One space before and after double punctuation signs:
Example: Je viens ; je pars

    • Diacritics:

Diacritics should be implements in all cases, even capital letters:

    ❌Wrong: A Demain
    ✔️Good: À demain
    ❌Wrong: Ca
    ✔️Good: Ça

8️⃣Capitalize Proper names (e.g. persons, places, gods)

Proper names such of persons, divinity, places, cities, brands or certain special things should be capitalized.

    ❌Wrong
    brooklyn bridge, new york, germany
    ✔️Good
    Brooklyn Bridge, Obama, Rome, Maserati

In english days of the week and months should be capitalized.
    Eg. Monday, Tuesday
    April, June

9️⃣Numbers as words except for content listed here*

    • From 1 to 10, numbers should be written out: one, two, three, etc.

    • Above 10, numbers should be written numerically: 11, 12, 13, etc.

    Times of day:

    • Use numerals when exact times are emphasized: 9:30 a.m.

    • Use lowercase a.m. (ante meridiem) and p.m. (post meridiem)

    • Spell out words/phrases that do not include actual numbers: half past, quarter of, midnight, noon

    • Dates should be written as numbers instead eg. 1987,

    • Decades should be written like this: ‘60s
